Luang Prabang City Highlights Tour

On this half day tour visit some of these priceless monuments on a tour around the highlights of old city, now under UNESCO protection as a World Heritage Site. Your local guide and driver will meet you at approximately 8.30am. First visit Wat Xieng Thong - often said to be Luang Prabang?s most beautiful. It is characterized by its several roofs sweeping low to the ground and the impressive ?tree of life? mosaic. The gilt panel on the exterior of the chapel depicts semi-erotic episodes from the Ramayana.

Next visit Vat Visoun, the site of an impressive stupa, That Makmo. Then walk to the nearby Vat Aham, which is one of the city?s major tutelary shrines, dedicated to Deveta Luang (spirit) Pu Gneu Ya Gneu (ancestors). Continue on to visit Wat Mai - built in 1796, the five-tiered roof of the wooden Sim (chapel) epitomizes the graceful Luang Prabang architectural style. Phou Sii hill stands right in the center of this small city. Climb its 350 steps to enjoy commanding views for many miles in each direction. Wat Phu Sii sits atop the mountain, along side the skeletons of Indochina war anti-aircraft guns.

Luang Prabang is great for exploring and today?s sightseeing will have given you your bearings. The remainder of the day is at own arrangements.
